Czech government actively fights drug addiction, prostitution and alcoholism. Elimination of gambling activity on the country's territory at the same time is quite reasonable. Surprisingly, all these addictions are connected with each other. For example, light drugs, which are allowed in Czech Republic, and total alcohol freedom often brings people to casinos. Naturally, many of them appear to have nothing at all in the end, lose lots of money due to their foolishness and mortgage their property.
Czech Republic is one of the leaders in game machine density: there're 7.5 slot machines for 1,000 people. This indicator is much higher than in neighbouring countries – Germany and Slovakia. According to the official data, 170 thousands of gamblers have problems with gambling. 80 thousands of them are addicts. In 2012 Czech people spent in general $635 mln on gambling. The government is going to increase the tax rate for operators exactly by 2 times (from 20% to 40%). Officials presume that it must have a certain influence on the popularity of gamvling and reduce the number of gambling establishments as well as replenish the state budget.
